On June 16, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition project “Codices librorum. Book Codes”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the new building of the main library of the country.
The exhibition project has collected more than 250 exhibits, each of which is a kind of “code” of the Belarusian culture.

The exhibition presents books with inscriptions from famous Belarusian writers, poets and high-ranking officials of Belarus, which were collected during the twenty years of the new building’s existence.
Among the rarities are antique gold-embossed bindings, facsimile and miniature books.
The elements of printing equipment for creating books are presented: vintage metal fonts, printing plates provided by our the State Enterprise Belarusian Printing House Publishing Co. Special attention is paid to the aesthetics of the book as an object of art, namely to the publications-winners of the annual republican competition “The Art of the Book” for the entire time since 1968.
The presented works of art students, inspired by Belarusian culture and classical literature, create a unique dialogue between generations.
Sculptural compositions by famous masters organically complement the space, creating a lively dialogue between generations and turning the exhibition into a harmonious fusion of intellectual heritage and modern art.
The project aims to show the book not only as an element of the library’s collection, but also as a multi-layered phenomenon: a physical object, a work of visual art and a carrier of sacred meanings that form the identity of society.

It is worth noting that the State Enterprise Belarusian Printing House Publishing Co co-organized the exhibition project.
Andrey Lukyanchikov, Director General of the State Enterprise Belarusian Printing House Publishing Co, sent a congratulatory message to the management and staff of the National Library of Belarus.
