This year the festival will take place on July 6 at its usual location – the picturesque bank of the Dnieper. At the bridge connecting the agricultural towns of Alexandria and Kopys.

The republican holiday “Kupala” (“Alexandria gathers friends”) in the agricultural town of Alexandria, Shklovsky district is the only one of its kind, the brightest cultural event of the summer for the Dnieper region.

Traditionally, every year, work is carried out to prepare for the holiday, press conferences and meetings are held where the results of last year’s festival are discussed, and the program for the current holiday is worked out.

“Kupala”, as a large-scale festival, begins its history in 2010 on the Mogilev land, in Alexandria, the homeland of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko. On July 6–7, guests from surrounding villages and hamlets, as well as from Orsha, Shklov, Mogilev and Minsk, came to the event. The audience was presented with the concert program “Kupalle nad Dnyapr”. The head of state visited the holiday and, after getting acquainted with the festival grounds, noted that he was pleasantly surprised by the attention to the holiday. His annual presence and welcoming speech at the celebration has become a good tradition.

The idea to hold the celebration in Alexandria did not arise by chance. All Kupala events traditionally took place on the banks of the Dnieper River, the bed of which from time immemorial served as the cradle of the culture of many Slavic peoples, and the water artery was once an integral part of the large trade route “from the Varangians to the Greeks.”
