Today, the whole of Belarus celebrates the Day of the National Flag, the National Emblem and the National anthem. On the festive day, a beautiful and solemn ceremony honoring the main symbols of the state took place in Minsk with the participation of the President. More than five thousand people gathered on the National Flag Square. Boys and girls from each region and the city of Minsk took the oath of allegiance to the state symbols. The same rituals took place in all regions of the country. The modern flag, coat of arms and anthem of Belarus have become symbols of our numerous labor, sports and creative victories. The first cosmonaut of sovereign Belarus, Marina Vasilevskaya, handed over to the Head of State the flag that had been with her on board the International Space Station. In his speech, Alexander Lukashenko stressed that the tradition of honoring the most important symbols of sovereign Belarus has become truly national.
On April 12, 2023, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No. 105, which corrects Decree No. 157 of March 26, 1998 “On Public Holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus”. The name of the state holiday has been changed from “Day of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus and the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus – the second Sunday in May” to “Day of the State Flag, the State Emblem and the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus – the second Sunday in May”.
The new name will pay tribute to all three state symbols of Belarus.
