THE CONSTITUTION OF BELARUS IS 30 YEARS OLD!

Dear colleagues and partners, compatriots!

This holiday is a symbol of the choice of an independent path for the development of our legal state, preserving the historical memory and identity of the Belarusian people, reflecting the desire of citizens for cohesion and social harmony.

The Basic Law of the country was adopted on March 15, 1994 and is the first in the history of a sovereign republic and the fifth Constitution of Belarus, which was in force after the October Revolution of 1917. In 1996 and 2004, at republican referendums, the Constitution was stated in a new edition. The Law of the Republic of Belarus of October 12, 2021 No. 124-3 amended the Constitution regarding the conduct of elections of deputies on a single voting day. On February 27, 2022, the next republican referendum was held on the issue of introducing amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. As a result, the preamble and 85 articles were adjusted, 11 new articles appeared, and 2 articles were excluded. Also, the Basic Law was supplemented with a new chapter 31 “All-Belarusian People’s Assembly”. Currently, the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus contains 9 sections, 9 chapters and 156 articles.

Please accept my sincere congratulations on one of the main public holidays – Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus!
