On the International Day of Labor Safety, a training seminar on labor protection was held for heads of structural divisions of the Printing House, which was conducted by the chief technical labor inspector of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Trade Union of Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism Workers Dmitry Sokolik.
The right to work, fair remuneration for it, as well as healthy and safe working conditions are among the fundamental rights of citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.
In order to implement these rights, an appropriate legislative framework has been formed in the republic that regulates the rights and obligations of both employers (employers) and employees (employees). Its basis is formed by the Labor Code of the Republic of Belarus, the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Labor Protection”, acts of the Head of State regulating labor and related relations, as well as regulatory legal acts and technical legal acts adopted in their development.
A national safety and health culture is one that respects the right to safe and healthy working conditions at all levels, where governments, employers and workers actively participate in the provision of a safe and healthy work environment, clearly defining rights and responsibilities, and where the principle of prevention is given the highest priority.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) estimates that every year around 2.3 million people worldwide die as a result of workplace accidents and occupational diseases. Of this number, about 317 thousand cases are fatal accidents and about 1.7 – 2 million deaths are caused by work-related diseases. In addition, workers suffer approximately 270 million work-related accidents each year that result in absences of more than 3 days from work and approximately 160 million non-fatal illnesses.
Only through joint actions of workers and employers will the priority of preserving the life and health of workers be achieved.
