Topic: “ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS: THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON US”
Any electoral campaign is of particular importance for the country.
And the presidential elections are a key event for all of us together and for each of us individually, because they determine our future.
Today we cannot but be in the focus of a significant socio-political event that will certainly determine the further sustainable development of the Belarusian state – the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus, scheduled for January 26, 2025. This decision has been made
On October 23, 2024, at a meeting of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
The choice of the date is due to a number of reasons.
Firstly, it corresponds to the terms defined by the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus.
Secondly, based on the positive practice of organizing the referendum in 2022 and the single voting day in 2024, it is obvious that in winter a minimum number of citizens leave the country or the city. In turn, holding elections in spring and summer would be complicated by a sowing campaign, vacation time and entrance exams to educational institutions, where, as a rule, polling stations are located.
Thirdly, the minimum time gap between a single voting day and the presidential campaign will allow the most rational use of the accumulated potential – human, organizational, technical, financial, information, resources.
Fourthly, the presidential elections precede the start of important events that determine the future of our state.
“Our most important task is to finish this year with dignity and start next year. The results of the presidential elections will largely depend on this. The priority is to work with people,” the Head of State said at a meeting on topical domestic political issues and preparations for political campaigns on September 10, 2024.
The next year, 2025, will be the final year in the implementation of the Program of socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2021-2025. Quite naturally, there will be a need to sum up the results of its implementation and determine the further strategic course of the country’s development, the main directions of domestic and foreign policy. The role of the national leader is important here, since he forms the Government, ensures economic and political stability, continuity and interaction of public authorities. The inauguration of the newly elected President of the Republic of Belarus in early 2025 will allow him to exercise his powers at the initial stage of strategic planning. It is the presidential elections that will determine the future of Belarus in the coming years and the directions of further development. In fact, this is a test of the strength of our state’s political system.
The election campaign for the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus puts an end to the process of political modernization, which was carried out in Belarus on the basis of the decisions of the referendum
On February 27, 2022, when amendments and additions were made to the Constitution of the country. It logically completes the formation of all government institutions for the coming five years and, undoubtedly, will contribute to the further strengthening of democracy in the country.
On October 24, the Central Election Commission (hereinafter referred to as the CEC) approved a calendar plan of organizational measures for the preparation and conduct of the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus, reflecting the relevant successive stages of the election campaign.
To date, 153 territorial commissions have been formed to organize the presidential elections.
No later than December 26, 2024, more than 5 thousand precinct commissions will be created, in which the order is planned to participate
60 thousand people.
As a rule, these are experienced people who have passed the practice of a single voting day this year.
Polling stations will be formed by December 11.
In Belarus, the nomination of presidential candidates takes place in one way – by collecting signatures of citizens. The CEC has registered 7 initiative groups to collect signatures for the nomination of presidential candidates.
By the way, after the republican referendum of 2022, the requirements for a candidate for President of the Republic of Belarus have changed.
For reference:

The election campaign will be held from January 1 to January 25, 2025.
Early voting in the presidential elections of Belarus will begin on January 21, the main voting day is January 26, 2025.
No later than February 5, 2025, the Central Commission will determine the results of the presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus.

In order to inform citizens about the preparation and conduct of elections, the resolutions of the Central Election Commission will be posted on the website. Information defined by the Electoral Code will also be sent to the print media for publication.
Thus, to date, the republic has created a regulatory legal framework for holding presidential elections at the highest organizational level.
For reference:
The elections of the President of the Republic of Belarus have already been held 6 times. During the first election campaign, A.G. Lukashenko won in the second round (July 10, 1994), gaining 83.4% of the vote. In all subsequent elections, the incumbent President won an unconditional victory already in the first round: on September 9, 2001 – 75.6% of the votes, on March 19, 2006 – 83%, on December 19, 2010 – 72.2%, on October 11, 2015 – 83.5%, on August 9, 2020 – 80.1% of those who voted.
On January 26, our people will make their own choice with whom the country will go further along the path of development and creation, preserving peace in their native land and preventing Belarus from being drawn into another full-scale hybrid war. As it was in 2020, when our society passed perhaps the toughest test of strength.
“We do not exclude that there may be some insinuations, provocations and so on. But there will be no more mass protests after the 2020 elections. We will not allow this, because we know who is doing it,” A.G. Lukashenko said in an interview with Izvestia newspaper on October 24.
Today our task is to demonstrate the cohesion of the Belarusian society and loyalty to our political traditions. We must preserve peace and tranquility in our country. Therefore, we must all understand that today we are choosing not just the Head of State, but the peaceful development of our Belarus.
