Topic: “Belarus – from liberation to independence (to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Operation Bagration). The policy of correcting the historical memory of the war”
The 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders is a landmark event in the life of the Belarusian people.
Over the years, the feat of Soviet citizens who heroically defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland has acquired special significance. It will never be forgotten at what a high price the Great Victory was paid. The memory of the searing truth of war is passed down from generation to generation. We continue to tell the truth about the Great Patriotic War, about all the hardships and hardships of that time, the heroic feat of the Soviet people, thanks to which the Great Victory took place.
According to Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, “The Great Victory is the main and key moment in the history of the revival and formation of the Belarusian nation. Her lessons allow today, remembering and knowing the past, to look into the future. And the love of life and creative energy of the victorious generation, who restored the country from the ruins, are an example of how we should live and work”.
Having passed through the ordeals of the Great Patriotic War, Belarusians will continue to draw strength from that Great Victory.
The further the years of the Second World War go into history, the more persistent are attempts to distort it, including the results of the Second World War, to belittle the contribution of the Soviet Union to the Great Victory over Nazi Germany.
We are witnessing how historical events and dates turn into instruments of ideological warfare. Western countries are trying to “replay” history, adjust its interpretation to the demands of the current political situation, and adapt it to their own needs. In this falsification of reality, the main role is no longer played by the historical facts themselves, but by their selection, interpretation and manipulation.
Today we are witnessing a paradoxical situation: while the collective West is carrying out activities to impose fake historical narratives, there is a “war of monuments”, war criminals and their accomplices are being whitewashed, in the Republic of Belarus they treat the heroic pages of their past with care and trepidation. It is important for our country to stand up and win in this ideological confrontation. After all, we, like no one else, know the value of peace.
Historical memory and our truth provide immunity against false ideas and hidden manipulations. We, Belarusians, will not allow the repetition of those tragic days that our ancestors saw and experienced. “We have the truth behind us, and we are the heirs of a great generation that gave us life, freedom and independence. Remember, Belarusians, not only what we say, but even what we think, they see there, from heaven, and hear. Remember this… They must understand that they did not die in vain. This holy army is still helping us to protect our native Belarus. It helps, first of all, by an example of indomitable fortitude, courage and dedication shown during the Great Patriotic War. Today we glorify the feat of our people, honor veterans and mourn the dead, bow our heads to the heroes and innocent victims of the war. Remember: this memory is sacred and inviolable, and as long as we have it, we will live, always live with dignity, not on our knees. It is so, it should be so and it will always be so!” Head of State Alexander Lukashenko stressed at the wreath–laying ceremony at the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex on June 22, 2023.
