THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HISTORICAL BUILDING OF THE HOUSE OF PRESS IS BEING COMPLETED

19.01.2026

A large-scale reconstruction of the former building of the Printing House on Independence Avenue, which is an object of historical and cultural heritage of the first half of the twentieth century, is being completed. Strictly speaking, newspapers have never been printed in the two buildings connected by a gallery, which Minsk residents used to call the House of Printing. It is more accurate to say that newspapers and magazines were made in them: editorial offices were located here. But most of them moved out at least a quarter of a century ago, when a more functional Printing House was built nearby on B. Khmelnitsky Street. And the Printing House, although there are still plaques of relocated and even disappeared publications on its walls, has long become more of a landmark, a toponymic rarity for the townspeople – like Komarovka, TSUM, observatory.

The exterior of the building, built 90 years ago in the constructivist style, has mostly been preserved. The only noticeable change was the new entrance group, framed by a glass canopy and a staircase on the left side.

Inside, a complete transformation has been carried out: all utilities have been replaced, modern finishes have been completed, including Venetian plaster, wooden windows and doors, and new tiles.

At the moment, the finishing work is at the final stage: ceilings and door blocks are being installed, and the flooring is being completed. The electrical wiring has already been completed, and plumbing is being installed.

After completion of the work, the renovated building will house employees of the Committee on Health and the Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Minsk City Executive Committee.
