Topic: “TRENDS AND NEW DIRECTIONS OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN BELARUS”

The development of the tourism industry is a powerful driver of economic growth, which contributes to the development of related industries, the preservation of historical heritage, natural and cultural values.

The program of socio-economic development of Belarus for 2026-2030 provides for an increase in the contribution of tourism to the economy by at least two times (up to 4.5%).

Today, tourists go not only for standard excursions, but also for high-quality modern service with an entertainment component, for emotions and impressions. There is an increasing demand for original, distinctive tourist routes of different directions.

The top 5 tourist sites in the opinion poll, which are the hallmark of Belarus, are: Mir Castle (18%), Brest Fortress (14%), Nesvizh Castle (12%), Minsk (8%) and Belovezhskaya Pushcha (8%).

The steady growth of agroecotourism, the high demand for country holidays within the country – all this provides an opportunity to show authentic Belarus and touch its distinctive traditions. In 2025, more than 470,000 tourists visited the agro–economic estates, of which almost 450,000 were Belarusians (95%).

The unique architectural and historical heritage of the Republic of Belarus makes it possible to actively develop historical and cultural tourism.

Pilgrims and tourists are attracted by the temple architecture (Spaso-Preobrazhenskaya Church and St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk, Boriso-Glebskaya (Kolozhskaya) Church in Grodno, St. Nicholas Convent in Mogilev and many others). The spiritual centers created in the country are becoming important objects of cultural and religious tourism.

The demand for event tourism is growing (“Alexandria gathers friends”, regional festivals and holidays, visa-free regime for participants from 71 states of the Slavyansky Bazaar in Vitebsk).

Within the framework of industrial tourism, more than 130 enterprises from various industries are open to visitors.

Among Belarusians, sanatorium treatment occupies a leading position in tourism within the country.

Medical tourism increased by 37% in 2025. Residents of 160 countries of the world turned to our doctors for help (more than 176 thousand foreign citizens visited Belarus for treatment). For the last in 5 years, the export of medical services has increased 1.5 times.

The creation of conditions for active recreation (“Silichi”, “Raubichi”), as well as the development of hunting and gastronomic tourism contribute to attracting tourists.

By the end of 2025, Belarus is among the three leaders in the index of sustainable tourism development in the CIS countries (after Russia and Azerbaijan).

Increasing the availability of services, high–quality service, and the use of digital technologies are the most important tasks for the development of the tourism industry in Belarus.
