Topic: “THE ROLE OF FAMILY VALUES IN MODERN SOCIETY”

A strong family is the foundation for the successful development of the state. Strengthening the institution of the family, preserving family values and passing on traditions means investing in the future. Therefore, the state policy of Belarus is aimed at preserving the family, where the father is the head and support for the whole family, the source of the accumulated experience, strength and wisdom of the ancestors, and the mother is the guardian of the hearth and the spiritual center of the family, ensuring harmony and continuity. This model is considered as the basis for the stability of society and the upbringing of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and respect for cultural traditions.

According to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, marriage, family, motherhood, fatherhood and childhood are under the guardianship of the State.

The issues of protecting the institution of the family and traditional family values are reflected in the Concept of National Security of the Republic of Belarus, approved by the seventh All-Belarusian National Assembly.

Government policy aimed at preserving traditional family values

Social orientation is a feature of our state. “Happy family” is one of the priorities of the current five-year plan for the socio-economic development of Belarus.

Today, the country is implementing a set of measures to support families raising children, with a special focus on large families. Conditions have been created for the possibility of participation of both parents in the upbringing of children. The State provides legal and financial assistance.

According to Belstat, over 2.6 million families live in our country, of which more than 43% raise children under the age of 18.

In order to maintain the institution of the family in the Republic of Belarus, a number of social benefits and State guarantees have been introduced.

For reference:

Among them are state benefits for families raising children; family capital at the birth (adoption) of a third or subsequent child; targeted social assistance to families in need; babysitting services for families raising twins, triplets or children with disabilities; social care services to overcome difficult life situations for large families and families with disabilities; labor guarantees for pregnant women, women with young children, parents of disabled children, etc.; pension guarantees for a number of categories of mothers; financial assistance from the state in improving housing conditions.

It is important that the State’s concern for the family correlates with the family’s concern for their well-being.

There are more and more large families in the Republic of Belarus every year (2025 – about 123 thousand, 2019 – about 106 thousand). The State award, the Order of the Mother, is a high appreciation by the state of the hard work of mothers with many children.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, 46 families in Belarus raise ten or more children. The largest region in the country is Brest, followed by Minsk and Gomel regions. The largest family in the country today lives in the Soligorsk district and brings up 14 minor native children (only 15 children, but the eldest child has already turned 18).

The presence of holidays such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in the calendar underlines the importance of family integrity, the importance of the role of each parent and the responsibility for raising children.

The Week of Parental Love, which takes place annually in Belarus from October 14 to 21, is a recognition at the state level of the most important role of the family in the development of society. This is a kind of message to the world community: Belarusians are ready to defend national interests, defend the traditional family, motherhood, fatherhood, childhood and the right to live their own way.

The family plays a key role in achieving demographic sustainability and preserving the sovereignty and independence of the country.

Strengthening the status of the family and traditional values, supporting motherhood, fatherhood and childhood is a national priority of Belarus. Popularization of family values requires a systematic approach and the participation of each of us. The more positive examples, support and attention are given to the family, the stronger the society becomes and the more stable the country develops. The classical model of a family with children should remain unchanged in the lifestyle of Belarusians.

Love your children!

Appreciate your family and friends!

Take care of our beloved Belarus!
