CHERNOBYL TRAGEDY DAY

39 years ago, on April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster occurred. To one degree or another, its consequences affected many European countries, but Belarus was the most affected.

As a result of the accident, a large range of radionuclides was released into the atmosphere. The consequences of Chernobyl for Belarus have been identified as a national environmental disaster.

Today, the country has established and operates a radiation monitoring system, which is included in the national environmental monitoring system of the Republic of Belarus. It includes a wide network of observation points and accredited laboratories. The main monitoring objects are atmospheric air, soil, surface and groundwater.

There are about 1,000 radiation control units operating in the republic.

Radiometric and spectrometric equipment is used to control the content of radionuclides in food, agricultural and other products.

In March 2021– the Government of the Republic of Belarus approved the sixth State Program for overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster for 2021-2025.

Among its goals are the social protection of the population affected by the Chernobyl disaster, the unconditional provision of radiation safety requirements, accelerated socio–economic development and the revival of radionuclide-contaminated areas.

April 26 is a memorable date in our country – the Day of the Chernobyl tragedy, the memory of the consequences of which must be preserved forever as a warning to future generations. There are people at our company who know firsthand about the Chernobyl disaster, people who were directly involved in the elimination of its consequences. In memory of the victims of the Chernobyl tragedy, representatives of the company’s workforce laid flowers at the memorial signs “Akhvyars of Chernobyl” and “Stone of Peace of Hiroshima” located in the Peoples’ Friendship Park.
